24 March 2010: Innovation Attic Opens
At a ceremony on 24 March 2010, the new Innovation Attic was officially opened by the Deputy Vice Chancellor: Research & Development, Dr. Peter Clayton. The Innovation Attic is a research space which will be used to support the activities of the Centre of Excellence in Distributed Multimedia, and will house postgraduate research students, research projects, and associated activities. It will also house the Software factory, established in September 2009 (see the associated news story).
Funding for the refurbishment of the space and the establishment of the Innovation Attic was generously provided by a number of the Department's industry partners, including Telkom, Comverse, Tellabs, StorTech and Seven Fountains Digital. In opening the facility, Dr. Clayton paid tribute to the support, both financial and in terms of encouragement to proceed with the project, provided by the industry partners.
