Department Receives SANTED Grant
November 2007: The Department was notified that our application for R1.5m of funding from SANTED (the South Africa – Norway Tertiary Education Development programme) for a postgraduate/research development exercise with the University of Namibia has been approved. The application was spearheaded by Prof. Alfredo Terzoli, who has been instrumental in forging the existing links between Rhodes University and the University of Namibia.
This project aims to emulate the successful support and development effort that the Department provided to the Department of Computer Science at the University of Fort Hare to boost their postgraduate research programme. It arises from the growing relationship between the Rhodes Telkom Centre of Exellence and the Computer Science Department at the University of Namibia. The funding is provided for 2008–2009 (R750k p.a.).
The project involves the delivery of Honours-level coursework modules to the University of Namibia, for Namibian students to come to Rhodes to study for for MSc and PhD degrees, and for course-development and supervision support for staff at the University of Namibia.
