July 2011: Philip Machanick joins the Department of Computer Science
Philip lectured at Wits for many years, before emigrating to
Australia. While in Australia, he lectured and worked as a researcher at the University of
Queensland. After a decade in Australia, he decided to return to South Africa, and was appointed
as an Associate Professor at Rhodes in 2011.
He has a strong research track record in Computer Architecture, and more recently has been working in the relatively new field of Bioinformatics. His appointment at Rhodes has positioned him to contribute to the Rhodes University Bioinformatics (RUBi) Research Group, managed by the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Biotechnology, and which involves several other departments, including Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Statistics.
