SIMagine Contest 2007

SIMagine 2007 is a contest organized by Gemalto (a merger between Gemplus and Axalto, formed in June 2006), together with Samsung Electronics and Sun Microsystems.  The contest is aimed at Java developers, specialists in telecommunications, researchers and students to use creative skills to develop tomorrow's wireless applications using SIM cards based on Java Card technology.

For SIMagine 2007 (the 8th edition of the contest) two projects, SIMPre and Mobil-e-com, were submitted by members of the Department of Computer Science.  The SIMPre team is made up of Tham Moyo (Computer Science Masters), Mamello Thinyane (Computer Science PhD) and Hillel (an entrepreneur from Johannesburg).  The Mobil-e-com team is made up of Hannah Slay (Computer Science Postdoctoral Researcher), Tham Moyo and Mamello Thinyane.  In October 2006 these two projects were selected for the shortlist of the top 50 projects worldwide.

The next phase of the contest is to complete the full development of the prototype applications, which will be followed by a selection of the finalists on 18 January 2007.  The final presentation of the projects will be held on the 12–15 February 2007 in Barcelona, Spain.
