Standard Bank University Challenge 2006

Rhodes Computer Science entered four teams or four people into the local heats of the 2006 Standard Bank Programming Challenge, held on Saturday 18 March 2006.   The competition lasted for four hours and the teams were given 5 problems to solve.

Rhodes D team were the winners of the local heats, managing to solve 4 of the problems, and Rhodes B were the runners up, managing to solve 1 problem.  Rhodes D consists of Greg Atkinson, Nick Pilkington, David de Bruyn and Rodain Joubert.

Even though this was the local round of the competition, it is interesting to see how the other universities performed on the same problems.  The University of Pretoria managed to distinguish itself by solving none of the problems, while it looks like UCT will again be the university to beat with two of its teams also solving four problems each.  (Wits' winning team solved two of the problems, and the University of Jo'burg solved a single problem).

The Rhodes D team now goes into the national competition (to be held on 30 March 2006, in Johannesburg).
